We recently discussed the fact that the 2021 Hyundai Elantra was in the running for the North American Car of the Year Award, and now the winner of the prestigious award has been announced. So, did the Hyundai vehicle win? You bet it did, and we’re absolutely stoked about it. How is a winner selected?
For the 28th year, the North American Car of the Year award has been given to a single model. More recently, sibling awards have been created for Trucks and SUVs separately, but the Car of the Year has been around since the first year. Each year, a large collection of jurors from all across the automotive journalism world in Canada and the U.S. put several vehicles through a series of three different votes to determine the finalists and, ultimately, a winner.
The judges look at things like value for the dollar, how satisfied drivers of the vehicle are, the model’s leadership within its segment as well as more vehicle-specific things like its innovation, design, safety and handling. Having looked at over 40 models in total, the panel whittled things down to three finalists. The 2021 Hyundai Elantra, Genesis G80 and Nissan Sentra. But in the end, only one model stood tall, and we couldn’t be more pleased to offer it to you right here at Cocoa Hyundai!
