Hyundai 45 EV Concept Design Inspiration & Highlights

On September 10th, the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt occurred and Hyundai brought a whole bunch of exciting stuff to unveil. Chief among them was the 45 EV Concept, a nice blend of foreshadowing for the electrified future of Hyundai design with an homage to the many Hyundai vehicles that preceded it. We figured we’d go over the inspiration for this beautiful concept as well as some of the highlights for its design.

“As an icon of Hyundai, the 45 clearly reveals how Hyundai heads towards the future through heritage. Through the 45 built upon our design language ‘Sensuous Sportiness,’ Hyundai wants to present our vision on how we want to reshape people’s in-car lifestyle in the era of electrification and autonomous driving.”

Exterior Design

While the 45 EV Concept’s design is an homage to the history of Hyundai design, it is inspired in particular by the 1974 Pony Coupe Concept. That concept built the DNA for Hyundai design for the decades that followed, making it the perfect inspiration for such a vehicle. The 45 EV adopts an aerodynamic, lightweight, monocoque-style body filled with 45-degree angles that lend to the vehicle’s name. These angles form the silhouettes of diamonds, a particular nod to the future of Hyundai EV design.

Interior Design

The 45 EV Concept’s interior embodies Hyundai’s new ‘STYLE SET FREE’ strategy for future vehicles. With autonomous driving in mind, the interior of the 45 was designed to be transformed in such a way that any number of different lifestyles could be managed from the cabin. The cabin becomes more like a living space than the cockpit of a vehicle. In the 45 EV, that cabin takes a minimalist approach and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere made of wood, fabric and leather. Its rear seats are styled after lounge chairs while the front seats can rotate to face rear passengers, while the dashboard features an entire projector-beam interface, far surpassing the display screen infotainment systems of today.

While a vehicle like this is probably a long way off in terms of production models, we are even more excited by the future because of it. We’ll be sure to fill you in on more details about the 45 EV Concept if they become available, as well as other things that were revealed at the auto show.
