Hyundai IONIQ Sub-brand Lineup of Vehicles

Is Hyundai splitting IONIQ off as its own brand?

Some very exciting news came out of the Hyundai camp earlier this month, and we couldn’t be more stoked about it. Hyundai has been promising to expand its electrified lineup over the past couple of years, and what better way to do that than by creating a whole new sub-brand focused completely on just that? Much like when the brand turned the Hyundai Genesis into its new luxury sub-brand, now Hyundai will be splitting the Hyundai IONIQ off as its own brand, completely devoted to electrified options!

Which vehicles will the IONIQ brand offer?

Details are obviously limited and flexible this early on in the process of Hyundai transitioning IONIQ to its own brand, but we’re stoked to be able to share what information has already been released. Instead of being the world’s first and only model to offer three different electrified power options in a single body, the Hyundai IONIQ will now be its own brand.

Hyundai has announced that it will utilize a numerical naming system, with even numbers representing sedans and odd numbers representing crossovers & SUVs. Three models have already been discussed, the IONIQ 5, which will be based on the 45 EV Concept, the IONIQ 6, which will be based on the recent Prophecy EV Concept, and the IONIQ 7, a large SUV. The IONIQ 5 will launch in early 2021, followed by the 6 in 2022 and the 7 in 2024.
