Why is this figure important?

96% is an incredibly high number, which might sound impressive even without any background information. But the reason it’s truly impressive in this regard is because it’s two years early. What does that mean? Back in 2016, Hyundai was one of many companies across the automotive industry which, in conjunction with both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, vowed to make AEB a standard feature on most if not all vehicles by September 1st of 2022.

That means Hyundai voluntarily decided to pushing things up even faster than that, standardizing it across almost the entire lineup. The only vehicle that doesn’t come standard with Automatic Emergency Braking is the Hyundai Accent, which does include it on its top-tier trim level.

In Hyundai vehicles, Automatic Emergency Braking is called Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. It’s a technology that detects impending collisions and determines if it will be unavoidable, working to lessen damage if it is.
