2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid vs 2017 Toyota Prius
Every year the market becomes denser and denser with hybrid vehicles and other alternative-power automobiles. But some of the tried and true stick around to just keep throwing punches, like the Sonata Hybrid and, obviously, the iconic Toyota Prius. We thought we’d see how our favorite hybrid sedan – with the only possible exception being the Ioniq – fares against legend, by comparing the 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid vs 2017 Toyota Prius.
We’ve put together the table below to give you a more visual look at how the two vehicles fare against one another. Each vehicle has its clear advantages, and we’ll go into them in detail further down the page.

|13.3 cu. ft.||Cargo Capacity||24.6 cu. ft.|
|119.4 cu. ft.||Passenger Volume||117.7 cu. ft.|

Advantages of the 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
While the Sonata Hybrid cannot compete in terms of fuel efficiency with the icon, it certainly has the upper hand when it comes to power. The first row proves this as it shows the Prius gives up 72 horsepower, which is a pretty big number. You’ll certainly notice a more enjoyable experience behind the wheel of the Sonata Hybrid, which is a pretty enticing advantage if you’re willing to go with slightly lower fuel economy ratings.
Another thing the Prius has on the Sonata Hybrid is that it’s a hatchback, so it offers nearly twice as much space in its trunk than the Hyundai sedan. However, the Sonata Hybrid does offer an extra 1.7 cubic feet of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in in the cabin. Plus, while the Prius might save you some change at the pump, the Sonata Hybrid has a comparable range thanks to offering room for 4.6 more gallons of fuel in the tank.
