2018 Hyundai Elantra GT vs 2018 Ford Focus Hatchback
Since 2013, the Hyundai Elantra GT has been turning heads as the sporty hatchback version of the popular compact sedan. While it’s no high-performance track star like some of the hot hatches on the market today, it does offer an incredible blend of power, efficiency and cargo space making it competitive within its segment. There are quite a few other vehicles in its segment, though, so we thought we’d see how it measures up by pitting the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT vs 2018 Ford Focus Hatchback.
The first generation of the Ford Focus was actually launched as a hatchback model. Eventually its sedan version took over as the epitome of the Focus family, but the hatchback has been clinging on tightly for years as an excellent hatchback option. To get a better idea of how these two measure up to one another, we put together the table below.
2018 Hyundai Elantra GT
2018 Ford Focus Hatchback
|162 HP||Horsepower||160 HP|
|150 lb-ft.||Torque||146 lb-ft.|
|26 mpg||Combined Fuel Efficiency||28 mpg|
|24.9 cu. ft.||Cargo Capacity||23.3 cu. ft.|
Advantages of the 2018 Elantra GT
One glance at the table up above shows just how similar these two hatchback sedans are to one another, but each has its subtle advantages. Starting in the first row, the Hyundai Elantra GT offers an extra two horsepower more than the Ford Focus Hatchback, and the second row shows an extra 4 pound-feet of torque as well. These numbers aren’t a huge difference, but ever bit of power counts.
Unfortunately, the third row shows that the Ford Focus fires back by offering an extra 2 miles per gallon combined. Again, that’s not a huge difference but it will save some change in the long run. The biggest advantage either sedan has comes in the fourth row, and fortunately it’s in favor of the Elantra GT as the Focus Hatchback offers 1.6 cubic feet less space for cargo.
