As the entry-level segment, subcompact sedans are often forgotten in their respective lineups. There are all sorts of great sedans out there from a multitude of classifications and brands, so the smallest are sometimes overlooked. But the Hyundai Accent has made a great option for many years, and there are plenty of other great options in the segment to choose from as well. We thought we’d showcase two by seeing how our subcompact measures up to one of its biggest competitors.
To do this, we decided to pit the 2019 Hyundai Accent vs 2019 Toyota Yaris. The Accent has been a solid option in the segment since its introduction in 1994, while the Yaris was released five years later just before the turn of the century. Both have been turning heads for years and making an impact in their segments, so let’s dive into what really sets them apart.
The table just above highlights some of the most important specifications to look at when shopping for a vehicle. These are the things to take into consideration in addition to the types of features you’re looking to have. In the first row we looked at horsepower, an area in which the Accent has a leg up. 24 horsepower is a decent advantage, and it will likely lead to a more enjoyable experience on the road each time you slide behind the wheel.
Unfortunately, the Yaris has a leg up of its own as shown in the second row, where we moved onto fuel economy. Toyota is known for its hybrid vehicles and delivering exceptional efficiency, so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Yaris manages to get three extra miles per gallon across both city driving and the highway.
Although the fourth row is actually a tie, the third row might as well be. Technically the Accent delivers more trunk space, but 0.2 cubic feet would hardly be noticeable. Both sedans offer seating for five. If you think you’d be interested in a 2019 Hyundai Accent of your own, be sure to get in touch with us right here at Cocoa Hyundai.
