2019 Hyundai Elantra GT vs 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback
Many people see the Elantra GT as an extension of the regular Elantra sedan, rightly so given the name. However, in markets outside of North America, the vehicle is known as the Hyundai i30 and it is its own entity. It bears a lot of similarities with the traditional Elantra, but it’s important to note that the Elantra GT is very much its own vehicle. We thought we’d take a look at how it compares to a vehicle in a similar situation by pitting the 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT vs 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
As the table above depicts, these two compact hatchback sedans are quite comparable to one another. The first row takes a closer look at their horsepower ratings, an aspect in which Toyota unfortunately has a leg up in the form of 6 horsepower. However, 6 isn’t a very big number when it comes to horsepower, and that already limited advantage is reduced even more by the fact that the Elantra GT weighs 97 pounds less than the Corolla Hatchback. A lighter vehicle doesn’t need as much power as a heavier one, so even just under 100 pounds will cut that 6-horsepower lead down to practically non-existent.
The second half of the table turns instead toward space, starting with cargo capacity where the Elantra GT turns things around in a big way. Hatchback sedan shoppers like you are looking at that segment because you need more space than a sedan trunk offers, so the fact that the Elantra GT offers an extra 7.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity is a pretty big deal. However, both sedans offer seating for up to 5 passengers.
If you can overlook the incredibly slight disadvantage in power for the pretty massive spatial advantage, then the Elantra GT might be for you. Plus, the Hyundai hatchback is packed with great content and features and it’s pretty stylish to boot. Give us a call if you’re interested!
