The 2020 Hyundai Accent in Cocoa FL is our entry-level sedan, and although it wasn’t redesigned in any significant way for the new model year, it did undergo some exciting enhancements that we think you’ll like. The subcompact sedan segment is surprisingly booming, but the Accent has made a great choice in the segment for well over two decades now.
The Hyundai Accent first made its debut in 1994, meaning last year was the sedan’s 25th anniversary as a member of the lineup. Now in its 26th year, the Accent is better than ever. The 2019 model year saw a complete overhaul as the Accent entered its fifth generation, and now in its sophomore year engineers just continue to build onto an already award-winning legacy.
As we mentioned above, the 2019 model year saw a total redesign of the Accent, so there weren’t as many changes necessary this year. Even still, the engineering team decided to increase the value of the Accent in its sophomore year by redesigning the subcompact sedan’s powertrain. With a new SmartStream 1.6L 4-cylinder engine and an Intelligent Variable Transmission now beneath the hood, the Accent slightly improves performance but ticks up fuel economy ratings by 2 miles per gallon across the board when equipped with the new IVT.
Of course, the new powertrain is just the most exciting aspect of the new sedan. There is still plenty more to get excited about that was just introduced last year, like the Accent’s sleek design and large suite of technologies and features. For an entry-level sedan, it is particularly packed with value, including features like its standard Android Auto & Apple CarPlay Compatibility, standard rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, available Proximity Key with push button start and available Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist among others.
