2020 Hyundai Ioniq vs 2020 Kia Niro

Hyundai is currently gearing up the electrified portion of its lineup as it has promised to introduce several new models over the next few years. But it wasn’t long ago that Hyundai introduced the incredible Ioniq, the first vehicle in the industry planned from the get-go as a three-model electrified platform with its Hybrid, Plug-in and Electric variants. A few years later, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq remains an incredible option in the compact hybrid sedan segment. But its liftback nature means it can compete with all sorts of vehicles, such as the 2020 Kia Niro – a subcompact hybrid crossover.

Advantages of the 2020 Ioniq

As you can see from a simple glance at the table above, these two vehicles are quite comparable to one another despite belonging to vastly different segments. In the first row, we wanted to highlight horsepower, as the compact sedan and subcompact crossover deliver the exact same net rating. Skipping forward, the fourth and final row also highlights that both vehicles offer seating for up to five – though admittedly, you might have a bit more room in the Niro. Even still, behind the back row, the liftback Ioniq actually delivers more cargo space than its crossover competitor as it offers 26.5 cubic feet compared to the Niro’s 22.4 cu. ft. Moving back to the table, in the second and third rows, we highlighted arguably the most important specifications of any hybrid vehicle – fuel economy ratings. The smaller Hyundai Ioniq dominates the Kia Niro, achieving an extra 5 miles per gallon through city streets and a whopping 10 mpg on the highway. Those numbers will translate to some decent savings at the pump in the long term. If you think you might be interested in a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq of your own, be sure to reach out to us right away here at Cocoa Hyundai!
