2020 Hyundai Kona vs 2020 Honda HR-V
Hyundai has been steadily building up its utility vehicle lineup over the past few years, but the brand-new introductions all kicked off with the Hyundai Kona back in 2016. Two years after the Tucson entered its third generation, Hyundai introduced the subcompact Kona, preceding the fourth-gen Santa Fe and brand-new Venue and Palisade models. It’s just one model to be introduced into the fast-growing subcompact crossover segment over the past few years, but we thought we’d see how it measures up against one of its big-time competitors by pitting the 2020 Hyundai Kona vs 2020 Honda HR-V.
While the Kona joined the market for the 2017 model year, Honda was one of the earliest adopters as they introduced the HR-V in 2014. Although it didn’t join the brand’s lineup until the 2016 model year, it has had plenty of time to establish itself as one of the best options in the class. Let’s see how the Kona stacks up!

Advantages of the 2020 Kona
The table up above highlights a few of the most important aspects of any vehicle, especially a subcompact crossover model like one of these. In the first row we look at horsepower, an aspect in which the Hyundai Kona has the clear advantage in the form of 6 hp. That’s not a massive advantage, but it is one, nonetheless. Surprisingly, this slight advantage in power doesn’t translate to a fuel economy deficit, as both the Kona and HR-V achieve a combined fuel efficiency of 30 mpg.
The HR-V is not without an advantage of its own, however. Unfortunately, the HR-V’s advantage is a bit more obvious than the Kona’s as well, as the Honda crossover offers 5.1 cubic feet of extra cargo space behind the rear seats for you to fill with whatever you need. The Kona has plenty to offer that isn’t displayed in this table however, such as its incredible warranty and safety technologies.
The final row showcases that both crossovers offer seating for up to five, wrapping up the comparison. If you can overlook the space deficit, be sure to give us a call and schedule a test drive so you can see how the Kona drives for yourself. We look forward to hearing from you!
