The Hyundai lineup, like many manufacturers around the modern automotive marketplace, does not have a minivan. However, there are still a few minivans holding strong and making excellent options in the widespread family vehicle class. So, we thought we’d see how our brand-new, 3-row midsize crossover measures up to one of the most iconic minivans on the market by pitting the 2020 Hyundai Palisade vs 2020 Toyota Sienna.
One glance at the table above will prove just how similar these two vehicles are despite belonging to different segments. Both were designed with the family lifestyle in mind, thus both would make great options for any growing or established family. But the table does show where each vehicle has its advantages, and unfortunately for the Sienna the scales are tipped toward the brand-new Palisade even if the advantages are small.
The first row highlights fuel economy, one of the most important specifications to consider in any vehicle, regardless of segment or class. The Palisade achieves an extra mile per gallon combined across highway and city driving, which again isn’t a huge advantage, but you will save some pocket change at the pump. The Sienna fires back with an extra 5 horsepower, but that small number would hardly be noticeable in a side-by-side comparison on the road. However, the fact that the Palisade weighs 303 pounds less than the Sienna, as shown in row three, not only eliminates that 5-horsepower lead but probably turns the power advantage in the Hyundai model’s favor.
Finally, the fourth row shows that the Palisade’s base trim level accommodates one more passenger than the Sienna does. This can be remedied in the Toyota minivan by opting for a higher trim level, but that comes with a higher price tag as well. If you think the Palisade is the right family vehicle for you, be sure to schedule a test drive here on the website or give us a call with any questions that you might have.
