Last year saw a massive redesign for the Hyundai Santa Fe as the brand prepared it for the introduction of the new three-row Palisade. Now the brand’s resident two-row crossover, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe adds a few new features and increases value across the trim levels. We wanted to see how it measures up against one of its segment competitors, to highlight why it makes such a great option, so we decided to pit it against the 2020 Ford Edge.
It doesn’t take long to see how these two vehicles differ by studying the table above. The first row highlights combined fuel efficiency, an aspect in which the Santa Fe and Ford Edge are matched in fuel economy ratings combined across city streets and highways. That’s a fairly sizeable advantage that’s going to lead to some savings at the pump in time.
In the second row we turned to power, an area in which Ford is pretty well known. Unfortunately, the lower Santa Fe trim levels can’t quite keep up with the Ford Edge in terms of power. However, in the higher trim level Santa Fe models, the Hyundai crossover increases to 235 horsepower, only giving up 10 HP to the Ford Edge. While it is certainly still an advantage, most drivers probably wouldn’t notice a difference of 10 HP.
The third row showcases another slight advantage for the Ford Edge, in that it offers a slightly larger cargo area. However, both two-row crossovers can accommodate 5 passengers. Although this side-by-side comparison might appear to be leaning in the Ford Edge’s favor, there are all sorts of things not pictured here that turn the dial back towards the Santa Fe. The 2020 crossover model is packed full of advanced safety technologies thanks to Hyundai SmartSense, plus you’ll gain the benefits of Hyundai Shopper Assurance through the buying process and Owner Assurance after the fact.
