Way back in 1985, Hyundai introduced the world to the Sonata midsize sedan. It was the vehicle’s first generation, and though it only lasted a couple of years in that incarnation, it set the stage for a decades-long legacy that’s showing no signs of slowing anytime soon. Now, 35 years later, we’ve been introduced to the 2020 Hyundai Sonata in Cocoa FL, the first model year of the long-running sedan’s eighth generation.
With a couple of exceptions, most generations for the Sonata have lasted around four or five years. Considering the seventh generation kicked off in 2015 and got a facelift in 2017, it was only a matter of time until the eighth generation was introduced. We’re stoked that it’s happening for the 2020 model year, a perfect way to celebrate the model’s 35th anniversary and nearly four-decade legacy.
While the DNA remains the same, almost everything else had been changed or enhanced in some way for the new generation. Redesigned from the ground up, the Sonata sedan is different from bumper to bumper. The design is absolutely stunning featuring, a Hyundai-first Hidden Lighting Lamp system, which enables the headlights to turn chrome and blend in with the rest of the vehicle when they aren’t lit up.
Another Hyundai first enables drivers to unlock their vehicle, start it and even drive it without a physical key thanks to the new Digital Key technology. Many other features do return from the previous model, so perhaps we should say everything is new in the model, but the architecture and design are both quite new.
Other exciting upgrades do include more new features, like the new Bose Premium sound system that packs twelve speakers into the Sonata along with other audio technologies like Bose Centerpoint and Bose SurroundStage. A new Shift by Wire gear selector is another great addition as well. If you think you’re interested in an all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata, be sure to reach out to us here at Cocoa Hyundai.
