For thirty-five years, the Hyundai Sonata has been establishing its legacy in the midsize sedan segment. Through seven generations, people learned and experience just how incredible the sedan can be, and for the new model year it has entered its eighth and best generation yet. Completely redesigned, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is sleeker and more sophisticated than ever, packed full of outstanding content and technologies. In an effort to highlight what makes it such a great option in the midsize segment, we thought we’d see how it measures up to one of its competitors, by pitting the 2020 Sonata against the 2020 Ford Fusion.
As you can see from the table above, these two midsize sedans are quite comparable to one another, but the all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata does edge ahead in certain aspects. We kicked things off by looking at horsepower in the first row, of which the Sonata delivers an extra 18 HP. That isn’t a huge difference to be sure, but the Sonata will likely be able to deliver a more enjoyable experience on the road for those drivers who like a little extra power when they press the pedal down.
Typically, increased power means decreased efficiency, but that’s not the case here as the Sonata also achieves an extra seven miles per gallon combined across highways and city streets alike. That’s a pretty healthy advantage that will lead to some savings at the gas station in time. However, when it comes to space the two sedans are identical, with seating for up to a five and a trunk that offers 16 cubic feet of space flat.
Shopping with Hyundai does afford you some extra benefits that you might not get with Ford, though. Thanks to programs like Hyundai Shopper Assurance and Owner Assurance, both the shopping and owning experiences are simpler and less stressful than ever.
